Ecobiz.asia – Nickel miner and processor PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (IDX: INCO) is targeting to reduce one-third of its carbon emissions from existing operations within five years.
President Director Bernardus Irmanto reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to sustainability and decarbonization, with a clear roadmap to reduce one-third of its absolute carbon emissions from existing operations by 2030.
“We are generating 365 megawatts from our hydro facilities, and 100 percent of our smelting activities in Sorowako are powered by renewable hydro energy,” Irmanto said during a panel discussion in Indonesia Sustainability Forum 2025, on Friday (Oct 10, 2025).
He noted that while the company still utilizes coal and fuel for specific operational processes—such as drying and induction—Vale continues to advance its decarbonization initiatives in line with its long-term environmental targets.
“Our decarbonization roadmap is well-defined, and we are making steady progress toward achieving our 2030 goals, and we are progressing well as well in that journey, ” Bernardus added. ***
