Ecobiz.asia — PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has begun exploring international markets by targeting the first overseas deployment of its Flow2Max geothermal technology at a geothermal field operated by Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in the Philippines, scheduled for June 2026.

The initiative was marked by a visit by PGE to the world’s largest wet steam geothermal field operated by EDC in Leyte, the Philippines. The visit forms part of PGE’s strategy to commercialise its geothermal technology innovations while opening up new revenue streams beyond the electricity business.

PGE Manager for Production and Optimization Excellence Mohamad Husni Mubarok said the potential implementation of Flow2Max in the Philippines could support operational optimisation and sustainable geothermal reservoir management.

“We are proud to introduce PGE’s superheated steam management technology innovation to one of the world’s largest geothermal companies. We hope Flow2Max can enhance production efficiency and strengthen EDC’s reservoir management,” Husni said on Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2026).

Flow2Max is a two-phase flow measurement technology that enables real-time monitoring of geothermal fluids. The system helps operators evaluate well performance, predict productivity, and detect potential technical issues at an early stage. The technology was developed from Husni’s doctoral research at the University of Auckland and has been tested across several PGE geothermal fields in Indonesia.

PGE Manager for Operations, Asset Management and Optimization Jati Permana Kurniawan said PGE and EDC have agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation going forward, covering not only technology implementation but also knowledge exchange and technical capacity building.

“This collaboration is in line with PGE’s vision to become a world-class geothermal producer as well as a geothermal centre of excellence,” Jati said.

During the visit, PGE was accompanied by PT Sigma Cipta Utama, a subsidiary of PT Elnusa Tbk, as well as technology partner Ecolab. Discussions focused on technical readiness, field requirements, and commercial stages prior to manufacturing and equipment delivery.

EDC expressed interest in the Flow2Max technology, citing its suitability for the characteristics of the Leyte geothermal field and the company’s need to improve precision in well management. ***
