Ecobiz.asia — Norway has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its climate and forestry partnership with Indonesia and is preparing to disburse the fifth phase of Result Based Contribution (RBC) funding under the REDD+ scheme to support Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 agenda.

Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Krüger Giverin, said Norway remains committed to supporting Indonesia’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry and land-use sector.

“We are very proud to have already provided support amounting to US$216 million, and part of that funding is now supporting the important work being carried out in Indonesia,” Rut said after attending the “Gema Langkah Alam” event in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 20, 2026).

Indonesia and Norway have maintained a climate and forestry partnership supporting Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 target since September 2022, with the cooperation renewed in February 2025.

Under the arrangement, Norway provides result-based contributions for verified reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from Indonesia’s forestry and other land use (FOLU) sector.

So far, Norway has disbursed four phases of RBC funding totaling US$216 million for verified emission reductions amounting to 43.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent during the 2016–2020 period.

“We have disbursed four RBC’s, and we are now working together with the Indonesian government to review the next emission reduction report. We already have a a good protocol and process,” Rut said.

She explained that the verification process is conducted by an independent institution to ensure that Indonesia’s reported emission reductions comply with standards agreed upon by both countries.

“There is an independent consultant working together with us to verify the emission reductions. Based on that report, we will process the next RBC payment,” she added.

Meanwhile, Forestry Minister’s Senior Advisor for Climate Change and Executive Chair of the Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 Working Team, Haruni Krisnawati, said Norway’s continued support reflects international recognition of Indonesia’s efforts to curb carbon emissions from the forestry sector.

According to Haruni, the fifth phase of RBC payment will cover emission reduction achievements during the 2020–2023 period.

“At present, the governments of Indonesia and Norway are conducting discussions based on the mutually agreed MRV protocol,” she said. ***
