Ecobiz.asia — Kongsberg Maritime, a Norway-based marine technology company, and PT PAL Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on energy efficiency and decarbonisation in Indonesia’s maritime sector.

The MoU was signed at PT PAL’s headquarters in Surabaya and witnessed by the Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Krüger Giverin.

Under the agreement, the two parties will explore collaboration on energy-efficient and low-emission maritime technologies for Indonesian vessels, covering both new shipbuilding projects and retrofit programmes, as part of efforts to support sustainable maritime development.

“Today’s signing marks the beginning of a meaningful partnership with PT PAL that supports Indonesia’s maritime ambitions and advances our shared goals for energy efficiency and decarbonisation,” said Wenche Andersen, managing director for APAC service management at Kongsberg Maritime, in a statement on Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2026).

The partnership represents a new phase in Kongsberg Maritime’s growing engagement with Indonesia’s maritime industry. In July 2025, the company expanded its presence in the country by opening offices in Jakarta and Batam to provide local sales, services, spare parts, and aftermarket support.

Kongsberg Maritime said the MoU aligns with a broader cooperation roadmap developed with Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation during the establishment of its local entity, aimed at strengthening national maritime capabilities and supporting long-term sustainable growth.

PT PAL Chief Marketing Officer Wiyono Komodjojo said the cooperation would help Indonesia integrate advanced and environmentally friendly technologies into its maritime fleet.
