Ecobiz.asia — Indonesia is set to launch its Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) in July 2026 as a key infrastructure to support the country’s carbon market.

Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono said the system is scheduled to begin operations in line with the government’s timeline.

“The SRUK is targeted to be operational in July. Developers who already have their project design documents (PDDs) can start participating in the trial phase by submitting data into the registry,” Diaz said in Jakarta on Thursday (April 16, 2026).

He urged carbon project developers to take part in the trial phase to ensure the system is fully functional upon its official launch.

The statement was delivered during the Indonesia Carbon Market Outlook 2026 forum organized by UK PACT in collaboration with INDEF and Eco Securities.

Diaz said the trial phase is critical to accelerating the implementation of Indonesia’s carbon trading system while ensuring readiness ahead of full deployment.

“We need participation from businesses during the trial phase so that the system will be fully ready when it is officially launched,” he said.

He added that carbon trading is expected to play a key role in addressing the significant climate financing gap at both global and national levels.

Globally, climate financing needs are estimated to reach $8.6 trillion annually by 2030, potentially rising to $10 trillion, while current funding stands at only around $1.4–1.9 trillion per year.

In Indonesia, climate financing needs are estimated at Rp470 trillion annually for the 2020–2030 period, while available funding is only about Rp76 trillion.

“This gap is what we aim to address through carbon trading,” Diaz said. ***
