Ecobiz.asia – Indonesian energy firm PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MedcoEnergi) said its oil and gas subsidiary, PT Medco E&P Indonesia, has officially joined the Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, a flagship initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) aimed at improving methane emissions measurement and reporting across the oil and gas sector.
The move is part of MedcoEnergi’s broader sustainability and climate strategy and reinforces its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions for Scope 1 and 2 by 2050 and Scope 3 by 2060.
By joining OGMP 2.0, Medco E&P Indonesia becomes part of a global community of more than 150 oil and gas companies across 90 countries that adhere to the highest standards of transparency and accountability in methane emissions reporting.
“MedcoEnergi’s participation in OGMP 2.0 marks an important milestone in realizing our net-zero aspirations,” CEO Roberto Lorato said in a statement on Thursday (Nov. 6). “Transparent and credible methane emissions reporting is the foundation of our decarbonization efforts and reinforces MedcoEnergi’s role as a responsible, globally benchmarked energy company.”
The company said it has already surpassed its interim 2025 target, reducing emissions by more than 1.5 million tons of CO₂e compared to its 2019 baseline, while continuing to expand its renewable energy portfolio through geothermal and solar power projects.
By joining OGMP 2.0, MedcoEnergi aims to further support Indonesia’s energy transition agenda as part of the Global Methane Pledge, contributing to the country’s climate goals while ensuring reliable energy supply for sustainable economic growth. ***
