Ecobiz.asia — PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) have entered into a strategic partnership to integrate digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy supply to support the development of green data centers in Indonesia.

Under the collaboration, Telkom will develop digital ecosystems and data centers requiring low-emission energy, while PGN will supply energy through biomethane derived from palm oil waste, particularly in Sumatra.

The partnership covers joint studies and potential implementation of green energy solutions across Telkom Group’s data center ecosystem, both domestically and internationally. The initiative aims to ensure reliable clean energy supply for next-generation, efficient, and sustainable data center operations.

Telkom President Director Dian Siswarini said the collaboration is part of the company’s strategy to strengthen national digital infrastructure powered by clean energy.

“This collaboration supports the availability of clean and efficient energy for sustainable data center development, while reinforcing Indonesia’s digital sovereignty,” she said in a statement on Thursday (April 16, 2026).

The agreement was formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Dian Siswarini and PGN President Director Arief Kurnia Risdianto in Jakarta on April 10, 2026.

Arief said the development of biomethane forms part of PGN’s transformation into a low-carbon energy provider.

“PGN is not only supplying conventional natural gas, but also clean energy that will underpin future infrastructure,” he said.

Operationally, five strategic locations—Cikarang, Batam, Serpong, Sentul, and Surabaya—have been identified as potential sites for Telkom Group’s data centers utilizing PGN’s energy supply. These areas are already connected to PGN’s existing gas pipeline network, enabling infrastructure optimization.

In addition to domestic collaboration, Telkom Group is also expanding global partnerships in green digital infrastructure, including through cooperation with Sembcorp Development Ltd via its data center arm, NeutraDC.

The partnership is expected to accelerate the development of AI-ready green data centers and strengthen Indonesia’s position as a regional digital economy hub. ***
