Ecobiz.asia – Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has significantly expanded the country’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with the number of home chargers surpassing 92,000 and public charging stations exceeding 5,000 in the first half of 2026, as EV adoption continues to accelerate.

Data released by PLN showed that, as of June 30, 2026, the company had installed 5,016 public EV charging stations (SPKLU) nationwide, representing a 22-fold increase compared with 2021.

The number of battery swap stations (SPBKLU) reached 1,133 units, nearly seven times higher than in 2023.

Home charging infrastructure posted the strongest growth, with 92,112 home chargers installed—almost 800 times the number recorded in 2021. PLN also operated 619 charging stations for electric motorcycles (SPKLU R2), up 27-fold from 2024.

PLN Retail and Commerce Director M. Fahrur Rozy said the company’s charging infrastructure is fully integrated with the PLN Mobile application, enabling EV owners to locate nearby charging stations, manage home charging, and monitor charging transactions through a single platform.

“The integration through PLN Mobile is designed to make EV charging more accessible and convenient for users while supporting the broader adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia,” he said.

PLN said it will continue expanding its charging network as part of its strategy to build an integrated EV ecosystem, although the company did not disclose deployment targets for the remainder of 2026.

The rapid growth in home charging reflects global EV charging trends, where residential charging accounts for the majority of daily charging due to its convenience and lower cost, while public charging networks continue expanding to support long-distance travel and broader EV adoption. ***
