Ecobiz.asia – Indonesia’s state-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) exceeded its first-half 2026 decarbonization target by 118%, driven by emissions reduction initiatives across its business operations as the company accelerates efforts to support Indonesia’s net-zero emissions goals.
Muhammad Baron, Pertamina’s Vice President for Corporate Communication, said the achievement reflects the company’s implementation of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles while supporting the government’s target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2060.
“As a global energy company, Pertamina is committed to implementing ESG in line with international standards. Our decarbonization efforts also reflect the company’s commitment to supporting Indonesia’s net-zero emissions target by 2060,” Baron said in a statement on Friday (August 7, 2026).
Pertamina also exceeded its target for low-carbon business development during the first half of 2026.
As of June, the company’s low-carbon business performance had reached 101% of its 2026 corporate work plan and budget (RKAP) target, supported by initiatives including bioethanol production, biofuel development, and energy efficiency programs.
“The achievement was driven by several key initiatives, including bioethanol, biofuels and energy efficiency programs, all of which exceeded their respective targets,” Baron said.
The company also reported strong performance in sustainability governance, with programs such as sustainable procurement, sustainability budget tagging, and community empowerment achieving 102% of their targeted performance.
Baron said the results demonstrate the effectiveness of Pertamina’s integrated ESG implementation across governance, social, and sustainability support systems.
The company’s sustainability performance has also strengthened its international standing, with Pertamina retaining the world’s top ESG ranking in the Integrated Oil and Gas sub-industry, according to Baron.
Pertamina’s sustainability initiatives have also drawn international interest.
On June 24, 2026, the company hosted a delegation from Telekom Berhad Malaysia, which visited Pertamina to learn about its sustainability strategy, including decarbonization initiatives, energy transition programs, and its Energy Independent Village (Desa Energi Berdikari/DEB) community development program.
At the international level, Pertamina continues to participate in the Oil & Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC) 2026, supporting implementation of commitments made at COP28 and taking part in annual evaluations of corporate emissions reduction performance. ***
