Ecobiz.asia — Indonesia’s state-owned power producer PLN Indonesia Power and Swiss climate advisory firm South Pole AG are exploring an extension of their carbon trading partnership for the Gunung Salak geothermal power plant while expanding collaboration on decarbonization initiatives and carbon market development in Indonesia.
The discussions took place during a recent meeting between senior executives of both companies at PLN Indonesia Power’s headquarters in Jakarta, as part of efforts to strengthen the company’s carbon business and support Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
PLN Indonesia Power President Director Bernadus Sudarmanta said the partnership with South Pole has played an important role in monetizing the company’s carbon assets and could be expanded to support broader decarbonization initiatives.
“We appreciate South Pole’s contribution to unlocking the value of PLN Indonesia Power’s carbon assets,” Bernadus said. “The success of this collaboration provides a strong foundation for extending the Gunung Salak Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) while exploring new opportunities in decarbonization and clean energy.”
In addition to discussing the extension of the Gunung Salak ERPA, the two companies reviewed the progress of their existing collaboration and explored opportunities to monetize carbon credits from other renewable energy projects operated by PLN Indonesia Power.
The initiative forms part of the company’s Beyond Energy Solutions strategy, which seeks to generate new revenue streams beyond electricity generation through carbon asset optimization and the development of decarbonization services.
South Pole Chief Executive Officer Nadia Kaddouri said Indonesia remains a strategic market for the company’s global climate business and offers significant opportunities for expanding climate solutions.
“Indonesia plays a vital role in the global transition toward sustainable development and a low-carbon economy,” Kaddouri said. “We are committed to expanding our collaboration in Indonesia to advance climate action, accelerate decarbonization, and develop impactful climate solutions.”. ***
