CnerG Acquires Monsoon Carbon to Expand REC and Carbon Trading in Emerging Markets

Ecobiz.asia — Global environmental commodities trader CnerG has acquired Singapore-based Monsoon Carbon, expanding its access to renewable energy certificates (RECs), carbon credits, and project development across Southeast Asia and other emerging markets.

The acquisition combines CnerG’s corporate procurement platform with Monsoon Carbon’s experience in environmental commodity trading, project advisory, and regional market development, the companies said in a statement as quoted on Saturday (June 20, 2026).

Founded in 2011, Monsoon Carbon operates from Singapore and Vietnam, providing services in renewable energy certificates, carbon credits, and project advisory for developers and corporate clients in emerging environmental markets.

The deal forms part of CnerG’s strategy to strengthen direct sourcing of environmental commodities while expanding its presence in fast-growing Asian carbon and renewable energy markets.

CnerG Chief Executive Officer Yongnam Jin said the acquisition would enhance the company’s ability to connect corporate buyers with reliable environmental commodity supplies across diverse regulatory environments.

“Companies need more than access to certificates. They need confidence in the markets, projects, and partners behind them,” Jin said.

“Monsoon Carbon’s regional relationships bring CnerG closer to REC and carbon credit supply, helping us support buyers and project partners with deeper market knowledge and practical procurement.”

The acquisition also expands CnerG’s supply-chain decarbonization services. Monsoon Carbon brings a portfolio of more than 150 exclusively managed projects, complementing CnerG’s digital procurement platform and global sales network.

Together, the companies aim to provide an integrated platform linking project developers with corporate buyers across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa (MEA), and other emerging markets.

Monsoon Carbon Managing Director Angus McEwin said joining CnerG would allow the company to combine its project network and regional expertise with CnerG’s digital procurement capabilities.

“By joining CnerG, we can combine our global market expertise and project network with CnerG’s digital procurement platform, creating greater value for both project developers and corporate buyers,” McEwin said.

He added that the combined business would strengthen support for partners by improving market access while expanding its regional capabilities.

Monsoon Carbon said it will continue serving its existing project developers and corporate clients through its current team following the acquisition.

The transaction underscores growing consolidation in Asia’s environmental commodities market as companies seek to expand renewable energy procurement and carbon market services amid rising corporate demand for decarbonization solutions. ***
