Metalogika Plans 20 MW Thin-Film Solar Factory in Indonesia With Midsummer Technology

Ecobiz.asia — Indonesian technology company PT Metalogika Rekayasa Sistem plans to establish a thin-film flexible solar panel manufacturing facility in Indonesia with an initial production capacity of 20 MW a year, using equipment and technology from Swedish solar energy company Midsummer AB.

The plan follows a binding investment and industrialization framework agreement signed by Metalogika and Midsummer to establish a manufacturing platform for Midsummer’s lightweight thin-film solar cell and photovoltaic module technology in Indonesia.

The facility could eventually be expanded to 200 MW of annual production, with longer-term potential for gigawatt-scale capacity, subject to market demand, financing, operational performance and future investment decisions.

Midsummer will supply manufacturing equipment and related services to the new Indonesian joint venture and take a minority stake in the venture.

The initial equipment package is expected to include Midsummer’s proprietary DUO system for thin-film solar cell production, along with other equipment and services needed for a 20 MW-per-year facility.

The equipment procurement will be undertaken by the joint venture after its incorporation and once agreed conditions are met, allowing the project to establish the required Indonesian investment and import framework before the manufacturing equipment is brought into the country.

“Our ambition is to build a long-term industrial partnership in Indonesia, combining Midsummer’s technology and manufacturing experience with Metalogika’s Indonesian industrial capabilities,” said Eric Jaremalm, CEO of Midsummer in a statement as quoted on Friday (Sept. 11, 2026).

“We intend to start with a clearly defined 20 MW industrial project, while creating the foundation from which the partnership can scale significantly as the market develops,” he said.

Jaremalm said the project also represents a validation of Midsummer’s technology and its strategy of providing partners with a complete industrial manufacturing platform, including technology, know-how, engineering, training, procurement and long-term production support.

Firrisky Nurtomo, president director of PT Metalogika Rekayasa Sistem, said the company aims to develop advanced solar manufacturing capabilities and build a locally anchored industrial ecosystem around the facility.

“Our objective is to establish advanced solar manufacturing capability in Indonesia and progressively build a locally anchored industrial ecosystem around it,” Nurtomo said.

He said the initial facility would provide a starting point for expanding Indonesian manufacturing capacity and increasing the use of local components to serve regional markets.

The companies intend to develop Indonesia into an important manufacturing node within Midsummer’s geographically distributed production ecosystem, initially serving the Indonesian market before expanding into Southeast Asia and other markets.

The project comes as Indonesia seeks to accelerate solar power development. President Prabowo Subianto recently launched a US$73 billion programme targeting 100 GWp of solar power capacity across the country, while the government is also pursuing rural electrification.

The parties will next proceed with establishing the joint venture, finalising its investment and governance structure, securing relevant Indonesian approvals and incentives, arranging project financing, and concluding definitive equipment and technology agreements. ***
