ITS, Swedish Embassy Eye Expanded Education and Research Collaboration

Ecobiz.asia — Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and the Embassy of Sweden are exploring expanded cooperation in education and research, following a courtesy visit by the Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia at the ITS campus on Thursday (Feb. 12, 2026).

The meeting focused on strengthening academic partnerships, student mobility, and joint research initiatives, particularly in areas aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education and global partnerships.

ITS Rector Prof. Bambang Pramujati said the visit marked an important step in reinforcing long-standing academic ties between ITS and Swedish institutions.

He noted that ITS has established collaborations with several leading universities in Sweden, including KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm School of Economics, and University of Borås.

“This engagement opens opportunities to broaden cooperation through international undergraduate programs, double-degree schemes, and access to career pathways in Sweden’s technology-driven industries,” Bambang said.

He added that ITS is also encouraging greater inbound mobility of Swedish students through exchange programs and short-term internships in Indonesia, aiming to foster two-way academic interaction and cross-cultural learning.

Leading the Swedish delegation, Ambassador Daniel Blockert said collaboration with ITS has shown significant progress in recent years, with several Swedish universities viewing ITS as an active and strategic partner in Southeast Asia.

Blockert also highlighted the growing interest among Swedish students to study in Indonesia, noting that stronger institutional partnerships would further support student exchanges and joint research initiatives.

Looking ahead, the Swedish Embassy plans to facilitate follow-up meetings between ITS and Swedish universities to explore concrete cooperation frameworks, particularly in research and education aligned with global sustainability priorities.

The visit underscores ITS’s contribution to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reinforcing the role of international collaboration in advancing sustainable development and human capital growth. ***
