Ecobiz.asia — Neo Terra announced that its South Barito–Kapuas carbon project in Central Kalimantan has received an ex ante A.pre rating from global carbon ratings agency BeZero Carbon, indicating very low project execution risk ahead of credit issuance.

The A.pre rating reflects BeZero’s assessment of the project’s design, governance structure, and implementation readiness prior to credit generation, placing it among a limited group of early-stage nature-based projects to receive a high ex-ante score.

Neo Terra said the project focuses on peatland ecosystem restoration and protection, aimed at avoiding emissions from peat degradation while supporting biodiversity conservation and community livelihoods in the Barito–Kapuas landscape.

“This rating validates the robustness of our project design and our commitment to delivering high-integrity carbon credits,” Neo Terra said in a statement on Wednesday (Jan. 28, 2026), adding that third-party assessments are increasingly critical to build buyer confidence in voluntary carbon markets.

BeZero’s ex ante rating framework evaluates key risks, including baseline setting, permanence, leakage, and governance, before credits are issued. An A.pre score indicates a strong likelihood that the project will deliver its intended climate outcomes if implemented as planned.

The South Barito–Kapuas project is being developed for participation in the voluntary carbon market (VCM), at a time when buyers are placing greater emphasis on transparency, environmental integrity, and independent ratings following increased scrutiny of nature-based credits.

Indonesia has identified peatland and forest-based carbon projects as a strategic component of its climate mitigation agenda, with the government seeking to balance ecosystem protection, community benefits, and market-based financing mechanisms.

Neo Terra said it plans to continue engaging with independent validators and ratings agencies as the project advances toward full registration and credit issuance. ***
