ESG Score Continues to Improve, Pertamina Ranks No. 1 in Global Oil and Gas Industry

Ecobiz.asia — PT Pertamina (Persero) has recorded a further improvement in its sustainability performance, strengthening its position among global energy companies.

Based on the ESG Risk Rating assessment by global rating agency Sustainalytics as of Dec. 31, 2025, Pertamina’s ESG score improved to 23.1, classified as Medium Risk, from 26.9 in 2024. Under Sustainalytics’ methodology, a lower score indicates a lower level of sustainability risk.

With this result, Pertamina maintained its position as the world’s top-ranked company in the Integrated Oil and Gas sub-industry, outperforming 56 other global integrated oil and gas companies.

Pertamina is also among the 11 percent of companies in the sub-industry assessed as Medium Risk, while 32 percent and 57 percent of peers fall into the High Risk and Severe Risk categories, respectively.

Vice President of Corporate Communication at PT Pertamina (Persero) Muhammad Baron said the improved score reflects the company’s success in managing sustainability risks in a comprehensive manner.

“Recognition from international ESG institutions shows that Pertamina’s commitment to running a sustainable, responsible, and environmentally friendly business continues to gain global trust,” Baron said on Wednesday (Jan. 7, 2026).

Pertamina’s stronger ESG performance is also reflected in assessments by other global rating agencies. According to the MSCI ESG Rating as of Dec. 31, 2025, Pertamina achieved a BBB rating, an improvement from BB in 2024.

“This BBB rating demonstrates appreciation from global rating institutions for the consistency of Pertamina’s ESG performance,” Baron said.

On the environmental front, global disclosure platform CDP recorded an improvement in Pertamina’s water management performance. In 2025, Pertamina’s Water Security rating rose to A- from B, placing the company in the Leadership category. Meanwhile, its Climate Change score remained at B, or the Management category.

Baron said Pertamina remains focused not only on business performance but also on environmental management and climate change mitigation in a sustainable manner.
