ESGIN Targets 500,000 Tons of CO2e Reductions From Lampung Tapioca Plants

Ecobiz.asia — PT ESGIN Global Partners (ESGIN) has partnered with 23 tapioca flour plants in Lampung to develop a methane emission reduction project from wastewater treatment, with an initial estimated potential to reduce emissions by about 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

The partnership with members of the Indonesian Tapioca Flour Producers Association (PPTTI) follows a memorandum of understanding signed in August 2026.

ESGIN CEO Brandon Keam said Lampung has potential for climate projects and green investment, supported by its agricultural, livestock and agro-industrial sectors.

The tapioca project will use methane capture, destruction and utilisation technologies to reduce emissions from wastewater containing high levels of organic matter. ESGIN also plans to integrate the project with digital monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV), carbon accounting, carbon project development and green financing.

ESGIN said the 500,000-tonne CO2e figure is an initial estimate. The verified emission reduction potential and any carbon credits that could be issued will depend on feasibility studies, baseline establishment, methodology selection, monitoring, validation, verification, registration and compliance with applicable regulations.

Separately, ESGIN has signed a memorandum of agreement with PT Juang Jaya Abdi Alam to develop biochar from cattle manure and rice straw.

The project is based on a cattle population of about 20,000 head and targets biochar production capacity of up to 30,000 tonnes per year. The biochar is intended to be used as a soil amendment, while its potential as a carbon removal project will also be assessed.

ESGIN is also exploring a carbon project in Lampung’s rice farming sector using the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation method, which can reduce methane emissions and improve water-use efficiency.

The company plans to advance the projects through feasibility studies, data validation, technology assessments, baseline establishment, carbon methodology selection, digital MRV development and investment structuring.

ESGIN is a Jakarta-based climate technology and carbon ecosystem development company founded in February 2026 and led by Keam. The company combines artificial intelligence, digital MRV, blockchain and carbon finance in developing environmental infrastructure and green investment opportunities in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Its stated focus includes carbon credits, biochar, climate projects and MRV solutions.

In July, ESGIN also entered a strategic partnership with PT Agraus Resources covering potential sustainable and climate projects, including renewable energy, waste management, circular economy, industrial decarbonisation, sustainable agriculture and nature-based solutions.

ESGIN said the combination of methane reduction from tapioca wastewater, biochar production and lower-emission rice farming could support the development of Lampung as a hub for carbon projects, circular agriculture and green investment.***
