Ecobiz.asia – The UK government announced a new sustainable infrastructure partnership with Indonesia during Indo-Pacific Minister Catherine West’s visit to Jakarta on Monday (January, 20).
The initiative aims to create opportunities for British firms while supporting Indonesia’s green development goals.
The partnership will enable UK companies, including Arup, Mott MacDonald, and PwC, to design and deliver environmentally sustainable projects in Indonesia, contributing to the country’s net-zero emissions target.
It will also provide £26 million in technical and development assistance through the UK’s Future Cities Infrastructure Programme (FCIP) and Green Cities and Infrastructure Programme (GCIP).

This initiative builds on previous UK contributions to Indonesia’s infrastructure, including the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit and Light Rapid Transit systems, which were developed with support from Mott MacDonald and Crossrail International.
The partnership is part of the broader UK-Indonesia Strategic Partnership, set to be signed in 2025 by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Prabowo Subianto.
The agreement will focus on secure and sustainable economic growth, complementing Indonesia’s target of 8% annual growth.
During her visit, Minister West also launched two initiatives under the UK’s Blue Planet Fund. These programmes will provide £18 million to support sustainable fishing, protect coastal environments, and assist communities in adapting to the impacts of climate change.

In Jakarta, West is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Indonesia’s Minister for Digital Communications, Meutya Hafid, to enhance cooperation on emerging technologies, AI, and combating online disinformation. She will also meet ASEAN representatives to strengthen the UK’s engagement with the region.
The Minister will continue her Indo-Pacific tour in Timor-Leste, where she will visit UK-supported health and education programmes and discuss regional security, including the country’s bid to join ASEAN. ***
